New blog address
Due to some hiccups....this is my last post on blogger. I have migrated to a new blog address. My new blog address is http://roscheai.wordpress.com.
After a long while..
We have decided to stop Kumon lessons cos Sean finds it a chore to complete his daily Kumon homework. I personally like the Kumon method of drilling as I was brought up that way too. Shayne benefited from Kumon system. He is doing well. But since we are going to stop Sean's lessons; Shayne will stop too. They are very competitive, should Shayne continues, Sean will ask to go Kumon also.
'
Yesterday, while Sean and Faith were having their swimming lessons, my SIL told me that Sean confided in her that he has too many homework.... he is very unhappy. I was surprise to hear that....he does not bring it up to me. In the evening, my elder brother said that kids at this age should not be discussing about what homework is still outstanding but more to - what to play later. Furthermore, we stressed each other over the supervision and timely completion of their homework. Too bad, we paid Jul fees already.... have to forgo that $480 then. This weekend, Sean actually played more than previous weekends.
Well, Sean - this is for you. ""You at 5+, mommy knew that you are already well above many kids of your age. Dr Chan said that you are intelligent and constantly tells me to read loads and loads to you...which I am trying to. I have to manage my time between the three of you. Most of the time, you read and tell me about facts which you found from books, about the characteristics of each pokemon, about the solar system, about the red blood and blue blood circulating in our body, you just told me about all about vikings.... and many more to come. I may have push you so hard cos' I'm always comparing you to Faith. But from now, I am going to stop comparing. All the mistakes of parenting were learnt at your expense. Thank you for teaching me to be a better mommy each day. "
Ya, we seriously have to have more family time together. Most weekends, we are busy driving them to one enrichment after another. As what Sara always says...."STOP IT". She goes around telling her brothers to behave and at times disciplines Shayne.
Talking about Sara, papa has decided to place her in Little Fairyland. I never instigated that cos' I do not want to influence his choice in selecting a school for Sara. I totally stopped talking about LF altogether. Guess what, yesterday, he told me that since LF taught and prepared Sean so well for P1, we must as well continue with it for Sara.

Friday
I have 15 minutes to spare before my next meeting. We got a netbook and a portable wireless connection. So nowadays... I will be able to blog in between my meetings. Nothing to blog about today... so talk about yesterday then.
Yesterday.....I was too busy teaching Sean and Shayne. Last night papa said that he wanted to watch Prison Break, so I took over his task.... taught the boys in the same room. Wow, mayhem... so difficult to control them cos' they kept arguing. Took longer than usual to complete the same amount of homework. However, we still manage to squeeze in the 30 mins of library reading session before bedtime. This morning, I woke up earlier and re-arranged the craft room, incomplete yet.... I decided to transfer Shayne's study area to the craft room too. But they will be in different corner of the room.
Taught Sean his Chinese spelling. I question myself every now and then... why must I push him so hard. I do not have the exact answer too. Sean knew my expectations and tries very hard to please me. I shall lower my expectations cos' I sensed that Sean has a phobia - what phobia? you may ask.... it's the phobia of making mistake in his spelling, especially Chinese spelling. He's good in his English spelling. My SIL commented that his Chinese spelling is very difficult. See it for yourself.....

Here is an example of his Chinese spelling for today. He is only 5+, see the stuff he has to memorise. Hmmm... must feedback in tomorrow's teacher n parents review session.
Have a great weekend.

Conversation with Sean
I transferred Sean’s study area from the library to the craft room now. However, Shayne’s study area is still in the library. I’ll see if I need to transfer him to the craft room too. With this arrangement - I get the 2 hours of crafting and sewing while he does his school homework every night. Normally, while he is concentrating on his work, I’ll engage myself in the product design and cutting of the fabric. I only start the machining part in the wee hours of the night. Yesterday, he looked around the craft room… and he asked:-
“ mommy, you bought everything in this room?”
“ Yes, why u ask?”
“you must be poor now because there are so many things in this room. Remember to ask papa for money.”
How sweet of him huh… my two boys have this idea that their mommy is poor and papa is rich. What or who gave them this idea??? In fact, both of us equally poor…
Yes, back to sewing. I finally completed this skirt for Sara. I had wanted to make a matching top, but I’m rather worn out after making this. Nicole tried it and requested a blue skirt. Will design and sew one for her….. However, I do not know when I’ll complete it though.

My pilot skirt project..... A patchwork layered skirt with pink frills and yellow lace.

Close-up ..... I like these these pink frills.

Made a pair of shorts for Sean …my mom helped to draft the sewing pattern. Tailored made pants are so comfy. Whenever he sees me cutting the fabric for his shorts, he’ll say…” thank you mommy for being so hardworking…” very sweet huh?. Have to make something for Shayne too. Will decide what to make for him…

Happy Papa's Day
Top 10 secrets to being a Papa (in Ros style)..
1. PLAY with the boys as much as possible. Play - it’s their profession for the time being. Kicking a ball, play Bakugan with them, play Wii…. You know… the boys stuff. The boys do not want to play Wii with me cos’ I cannot play as well as you. So good job and well done. To our lil’ girl, she loves snuggles, tickles, story telling, role playing….be part of her growing up years. Bear this in mind – be their role model and mentor.
2. Have dates with your boys. Bring them out once a month…. all boys night…Yes, of course I may be worried and wonder if you can manage two active boys, but it should be alright cos’ you’ll do it well.. And when Sara is older, bring her out for dates too. Juz the two of you.
3. Find time to TALK to the boys. They are growing up way too fast. Most importantly… bring yourself down to their level and really LISTEN to them. Listen to what they have to say. Respect their answers, don’t argue and quarrel to get your points across, do not treat them as babies.
4. REDUCE your telly time. If you really have to watch… do skip the sports channel. Go straight to channel 33 and 34. Know what they love to watch… Sean adores Ben 10, Shayne has not outgrown his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse ... the hotdog dance...and Sara loves Banana in pajamas…..
5. And REMEMBER… Baby poo is not that yucky. Well, it’s tolerable, at least. Do wash Sara if the helpers or myself are not available to do it at that moment.
6. READ to the kiddos. They love to be read too, even though Sean is able to read well now…. they still love to be read to. Yesterday, Shayne wants me to read to him. I’m tired after a hard day work….. I told him that I’ll read 5 books to him today. Try reading to Sara every night while I’m busy blogging and crafting.
7. PRAM Sara around the neighbourhood. She loves the doggies and kitties along the way. Also, she says “hello and bye” to flowers along the road side shrubs. It’s really interesting to find that she absorbs everything she sees along the way and imitates the birds singing, the kitty walking and doggies going round in circle before she sleeps. Have a walk with the boys once in a while around the neighbourhood too… stopped by the pet shop to say hello to the parrots.
8.Do not bring back your work stress. It’s unhealthy. However, you can bring the kiddos to appreciate your completed projects though. Be Patient with the kiddos.
9.Do not leave the kiddos to the helpers when you reached home. Be with them. Ask the boys about their day in school, about their friends….Coach them in their homework too. Shayne is doing fine with you in his Kumon.
10. Be the BEST daddy your wife could ever imagine, so that she will love you even more …. every time she sees you with the kiddos. Tell them that you love them and are very proud of them. So in years to come, the boys will model after you to be the best daddy to their own kiddos. And your girl will find a husband as great as you.
Happy's Father's Day and we love you.....

....very much.

Happy Father's Day
This year, similar to the previous year, the Chng Association annual dinner falls on Father's day. That was our Father's Day dinner, paid for ... by my dad. My dad, he's a great dad , a provider who used to be very stern and strict. We spent a lot of time talking after dinner. We - most of the time, it's my sister, me and dad. Sitting on the stone benches in the garden.... talking about his work, our homework, his aspirations for all of us. Yes, all of us met his expectations - academically. My dad dotes on my sister a lot. The other day, he just mentioned that sis and Mark should stay in Singapore instead (Sis - no stress... he has given both of you his blessings in everything you are doing.. some days he is just like that... you know +++ ...)
My dad used to say that he does not have money to pass down to us... the only thing that he'll provide us is ' Education'. To him, there is no limit to our education.... we get to choose the uni we want to study.....but it must be the courses in his list. In his list - most of the courses are related to construction though. He has already ensures that his grandchildren get the same 'Education' that we previously enjoyed..so the kiddos are going to get Gong Gong scholarship.... minus his list of courses.
One incident I remember vividly - when I was about 9 years old- he secretly passed me the answers to the times-table questions that my mom gave me ...cos' I just cannot remember the 7 times-table then. I was weak in my mathematics.
Thank you dad and we love you.

By the way, the karaoke songs and music were LOUD.

Shayne @ 4

Our boy @ 4
Weight: 18kg
Height: 102cm
Some random thoughts of him at 4.
- first and foremost... he is eating well. Loves a variety of food. Likes tim sum like all the Cheai family members.
- a very confident boy who possess leadership qualities.
- still learning the art of sharing. He does not like to share his things with anyone, especially his Bakugan.
- still loves toys with wheels.... cars... all sort of cars....
-loves to sing. Nowadays, he sings all the songs he learnt from school to us.
- his diction is still not very clear, but he is very fast in his thoughts and always manages to argue his way out of difficult situations.
- has a stubbon personality and quick tempered and extremely tempremental like his mommy.
- sweet and charming like daddy. Papa dotes on him a lot. Papa always ensures that Shayne has new clothes everytime I shop for Sean. Therefore, Shayne seldom get to wear Sean's clothes. Our helpers actually asked for Sean's clothes cos' they knew Shayne is likely not going to wear them.
- never fails to say... "good morn' mommy and good night mommy and I love you mommy..." every day and night before he sleeps.
- writes and read numbers wells.
- learning to write all the alphabets by himself.
-likes to have spelling sessions like his brother. Whenever I gave Sean spelling, he'll come to me and ask me to give him some spelling too. Knew how to spell many words already.
-plays Wii games very well. Initially, he does not like Wii game at all. Now due to Sean's influence, he plays Wii games every night.
- likes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He always tell me that he wants to go to "Mickey Mouse Land." Looks like the H1N1 virus is going to get worse. Our disneyland trip this year may be scrape. Shaynny, our promise to you.... we will bring you to disneyland once we deem fit for all to travel.
- attends loads of enrichment classes....I also find that is too much for a 4 years old. His LW English is going to start next month. Papa is going to decide if Shayne is going LW or TS. Knowing his papa, he'll end up having to go for both classes. Shayne also wants to enrol in skating and tennis and taekwando and swimming too. I told him NO, NO, that has to be later. My two boys are as kiasu as mommy, the other day, Sean told me that he wants to take Kumon Chinese too cos' his Chinese is not good enough... I was like.. "huh???" But I rejected his request too. Too much classes for Sean already.
-does not really like books very much. He only likes selective titles.... his fave is Eric Carle. He told me that teachers in school read to them Eric Carle's story books. Eric Carle is one of the kiddos fave author, we bought all of his books.. their all time fave is Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see. Now Shayne is reading Sunshine phonic series. Starting to read to him animals and general knowledge books too.
- always ask to draw together. He loves art and craft. He made a card and presented it to Nicole today. At 4, he still says..." I want to marry Nicole." Ya, Nicole comes to our house almost every morning.... so fast huh ... part of our family already. I invited Nicole and family to our Chng association annual dinner this coming Sunday too.
Shayne, mommy recorded these facts for you to read when you are older. Always remember, you are special in your own ways. We love you very much Shayne....
My boys
The boys are closer to Papa nowadays. Yesterday, while driving them back from school, they told me that they wanted to go to the airport to pick Papa. He had a Hotel presentation in KL. Hope he secures this Ipoh project.

My boys..

These two boys knew mommy loves to take photo. While they were walking towards the carpark, they saw this indoor landscape area and asked to take some photos. I gladly took it.
For the past 3 months, we stopped going to the games arcade on weekdays. Previouly, papa brings them there almost every other night. Good that they are in Kumon classes too - this will in turn cut down their games arcade time. Sean has passed a few levels in Kumon Math and English. He's good. As for Shayne, his concentration has indeed improved. He passed Maths level 7A. We are not giving him too much pressure. He is doing it slowly at his own pace... but getting him to complete his homework is a chore. He ínvented' his own ways of completing the worksheets and argue his way öut of every piece of work. I really cannot handle him.... papa has to teach him instead. He has so many repeated worksheet that I passed some to Nicole.... Surfin - don't stress her, juz for your info only as requested .
The zoo trip tomorrow has to be postponed to next week cos' I gotto attend to some of my dad's urgent stuff.....some last minutes hiccups. So this time... I made it a point to re-schedule all my meetings away from this Friday. Anyway, we'll bring all to the zoo next week.

First argument with Sara
…over a cow figurine. Sara is able to speak in 3-5 words sentences now. So she argues...
Surfin bought Sean all these animal figurines many years back from China. Each animal are made up of many sections joined by strings. By pressing the bottom of the figurine, the animal bends. There is one very special cow, which looks like a dog to Sara. The other day, she came to me and told me…. “ see dog, woff woff.” I told her: “ No Sara, this is a cow, moo moo.” She repeated : “woof woof” . I further emphasised “ Moo Moo”. It went on for 4 rounds. In the end, she looked at me and said “ No… woof woof”. Before I say anything she started to cry very loudly. She actually cried non-stop for so long cos’ I disagreed her…+sigh+. Carried her out to see neighbour cats… she loves cats, especially the tom-cat Ginger.
That very night, she took that “dog”, went to her daddy and told him….” Papa… Cow”. I turned and looked at her, she smiled back. She is growing up SO fast.
Some thoughts for me to take actions:-
Sara is getting very naughty and spoilt these days. She is with our two helpers everyday. They are good in entertaining her, sing and play with her…. etc. …but on the down side, she knows who is the boss – she actually boss them around and scolds them. That is lil’ tyrant in the making – I’m trying to stop that behaviour. Whenever she wants anything, her best weapon – CRY. The helpers are so afraid of her cries cos’ they will definitely be reprimanded by my mom if Sara cries. I had wanted to send her to school, at least be separated from the two helpers for the morning half of the day. But she is so young and falls sick so easily. Her doctor keeps reminding us not to send her to school so early and to defer any enrolment to school now, if possible.
Yesterday, my sister further emphasized to me the benefits of being a SAHM. The moral values that I am going to impart… the joy of seeing them grow…. the fulfillment of being a mom …. All other stuff that I am able to teach/ interact with the kiddos if I’m a SAHM. As I’m typing this, I’m still pondering my sister words. Well, I’m working towards to joining that league soon…perhaps a partial SAHM to start with. I’ll want to set up my own lil’ business too…not architectural of course. Some cafeteria cum children activities place. I am in the midst of planning… discussed my biz plans with Surfin – my potential biz partner.

Finally...
...Sean is able to blow bubbles in the water...yay..
Have to blog this… Sean finally knew the blow bubbles technique. This is his 2nd swimming lesson with coach Li. In his 1st lesson, Sean was rather apprehensive and cannot get the hang of blowing bubbles. I suppose he cannot co-ordinate his mouth and nose breathing while blowing bubbles. His two previous swimming coaches tried to teach him but to no avail. I also taught him before, but he just cannot do it.
CSC coaches train potential national swimmers…. so they are really very stern and fierce. In the group lessons, the swimmers are expected to swim or kick water almost every minute. No idling time. I did not expect it to be so tough in private class too.
Last Saturday, coach Li scolded Sean for not being able to blow bubbles. That was his 2nd lesson with him only. While talking to Yuen Yuen, I heard sniffing sound in the quiet pool; by the way…. only Sean and Faith with coach Li in the entire pool …on closer look, … OMG…. it was actually Sean crying. I was caught by surprised and assured him that he is doing well. He told me he does not like swimming lessons anymore! To entice him to continue swimming, we negotiated his Wii gaming terms….. ie, he gets to play 2 hours of Wii game after his swimming training….
After our conversation and my assurance, Sean reluctantly continued his swimming lesson. I left the pool side so that coach Li could teach Sean without my watchful eyes. I was told by Yuen Yuen that coach Li was fierce and Sean cried in his entire one and the half hours swimming lessons. There was no idling time for him, he was expected to kick water on a U float most of the time. In fact, I watched him from the 2nd storey reading room.
After the swimming lesson, with swollen red eyes, he walked to me and told me :
“mommy, I can blow bubbles already.” He was so proud of himself and demonstrated to all of us. Coach Li told me that he has to assert some pressure on Sean and pushes him a little harder.
Not end of story yet…. he played too much Wii game – till 11pm… He never manages to complete his school homework. In fact, he has not even started on his weekend reader, creative writing and Chinese homework yet. Will do it tonight and hand them in tomorrow.

Zoo Trip
We kept our promise - we brought them to the zoo. Picked Surfin and family at 8am, reached the zoo at 8.45am. Bright and early huh? We are suppose to bring Sara along, but since we are going to Nicole, we decided not to bring Sara so that we could stay longer in the zoo . Normally, we'll be off in two hours at the zoo. This time, we watched two animals shows and walked without taking the tram. I'm going to take next Friday off - will take the kiddos to the zoo again. This time Sara will be going along. The highlight of this entire trip - it is the rainforest water theme park.....

This photo was taken with loads of bribes..... promised them goodies for this pic.

Watching monkeys families....

waiting for tipping bucket.... to splash water onto them.

The boys told me that they wanted to come again next week, but they do not want to see the animals next time, just straight to the water play!
Happy Father's Day

Saturday morning
While Sean is doing his homework.... I am going to steal a few minutes updating my blog....
The boys suggested to go East Coast Beach instead of the park. So off we went in the morning while Sara and daddy sleep. Morning sun is the best for photos. These photos were taken with 17-50mm lens at F 2.8 ISO 200. They had a wonderful time playing 'catching' with the waves.
As Sara's class starts at 11.00am, we rushed home at half passed 10. Due to logistic problems, I rescheduled the boys Twinkle Star lessons back to 9.30am instead of afternoon for the time being.... till Sara completed her My Gym class.
Our lil' rascal....

Shayne threw stones to create ripples as Sean ran away from the waves...
Our lil' rascal....
They want to learn in-line skating... but boys.... there is no more free slot in your time table for this already. I'll see what I can do ...
During our brunch today, daddy suggested not to place Sara in Little Fairyland cos' she really perspires a great deal. Can you imagine that - she even perspires while being stationary?!?! We deliberated on the few options that we have.
I talked to teacher Joo Leng from TS cos' I may want to place her in TS for a year. Got the school brochure, passed it to daddy. Obviously, he does not like that idea..... his reply was:- ' let me think about it." That is another way of saying "No" . I have to respect that as I picked the boys' school and he'll pick Sara's school. If Sara is not joining her brother, daddy will choose a school for her then. Hope it is not Eton House though. He is not so concern about the boys' school but when it comes to Sara, somehow he's more concern. Sara is in play school now, she'll be there till she turns two. Currently, with her thirst for knowledge, she's in my school - I am teaching her ABCs and 123. She loves it.....
Gotto go for Sean's swimming class now...

Sean starts swimming lesson again
Sean had swimming lessons two years back in a condo and subsequently in Tanjong Rhu swimming complex. I stopped those lessons as he was not that ready for swimming then. Last Sat, he resumed his swimming in Chinese Swimming Club with another coach. It's a private lesson, we engaged a coach to teach Faith and Sean. When they get the hang of basic swimming, we'll enrol them in the group class.

Practise.... his blowing bubbles

Shayne, Ryan and Jodi went along to to render some moral support. Shayne insisted to swim too. I got him a vest-float and will be bringing him along this Saturday. He wants to go into this beginners' pool and not the fun pool.

Ben 10 Saga
Last Saturday, after My Gym and Twinkle Star, daddy brought the two boys to watch Ben 10 in United Square. I’m rather surprise that he actually volunteered to bring them there. A pleasant surprise as daddy does not like these show and crowd.
Our Ben 10 fans enjoyed this show… to be honest; I think the show is very entertaining. Now, even my SIL who was there with us knew some of the Ben 10 aliens. We never get the meet and greet coupon cos’, as usual, we were too late. I suppose that it should be ok as the boys may not want to be involved in the photo shoot. But after the show, Shayne insisted that he wanted to take photos with Ben and the aliens….I told him that I’ll bring him back again to watch the show and will definitely get the coupon next time. He refused to understand and cried. +sigh+ Claire and Owen witnessed it too…. oh yes, meet them there. On the way home, Sean kept asking what is ‘coupon’. It’s a good show. I will bring them there again this weekend.
These days, daddy is more involved in the kiddos activities. He guides Shayne in his homework and I’ll spend time with Sean in his. Daddy plays Wii games with them, but I restrict their playing time to only Fri and weekends. Before bedtime, we’ll spend time together with Sara. She sleeps passed 12 midnight everyday! So , basically, this is how we distribute our time. I’m planning a Disneyland trip to Orlando this Sept. Hopefully the HINI virus outbreak will be in control in the US by then. We visited that place more than 10 years back and we told ourselves then that should we have kids, we’ll definitely bring them there. If we cannot go to Orlando Disneyland, we might have to settle for Japan Disneyland. Keep our fingers crossed…..
By the way, my friends juz came back from Tokyo, they told me that it's safe to travel there even with H1N1 outbreak. I'm trying to robe in Surfin n family to join us for this trip.
As requested by Surfin, the boys weekly Twinkle Star lessons would be rescheduled to afternoon from this week onwards. To cut the long story short …. cos’ of Nicole’s some personal issues, Surfin wanted Nicole to attend the afternoon session. So after Sara’s My Gym class term ends, we’ll reserve Saturday morning for family time….yay…

Researching on the trip to Orlando disneyland. I have to buy some guide books for Tokyo disneyland this weekend.

Shayne's 4th birthday party
Shayne is 4......
Happy 4th birthday Shayne. We celebrated his birthday in Mc Donalds. Engaged Mr Bunny, the magician, to his party. All the kiddos enjoyed the show. Thank you all for attending his party and thank you for your wonderful presents. Wow, you should see what lil kids received for their birthday..... wonderful pressies.... I'll give him one every month. It'll last more than a year. 'Thank you all the gugus and pakpak for the ang pows.
Shayne - our lil' charmer.

Shayne's girlfriend Nicole. Shayne is a "one women" guy... he always say Nicole is his girlfriend. Sean has already "changed" a few girlfriends... but Shayne's girlfriend has always been Nicole. He always asks Sean : "Guess what's my girlfriend name? It starts with N." "Ït's Nicole", Shayne replied....
Shayne's friend Owen. The general comment of him is :- "He is so handsome".
My mom adores this baby - he's Xenn - Gwen's lil' brother. She must be hoping for another grandchild ... from my lil' brother.
Sara and buttons
Brought Sara to Spotlight - my regular hang-out place. I suppose in time to come, this will be her fave place too. I remembered bringing the boys to the button and beads sections while they were younger, they played there for hours removing and putting back the beads and buttons while I shopped for fabric.
A short video of Sara pulling off buttons from the shelves. Have to quickly take her away before she pulls out all the buttons from the hanger.

Busy...lately
Juz came back from lunch with Surfin. She commented: “why never update your blog?’ I’m busy with so many things lately, do not have the time to update. Never say so time – I have to manage my time….. So I’ll spend a few minutes updating it before my next meeting.
So…. What am I busy with lately:-
1. Sara is running a fever since Monday. Hope her fever breaks today... she is better this morning. Fever and sore-throat always brings with them a natural fasting period… her appetite disappears and we have to force-feed her with milk since Monday.
2. attending to my father’s many stuff - I’m his personal secretary – but minus the salary.
3. bringing the kiddos to enrichment classes. It seems that I’m attending enrichment too. Have to guide them to complete their homework before their classes too. It’s very tiring… very very tiring…… have to salute the teachers out there for the patience they possess....
4. trying to work less and stop talking about work with hubby…
5. reducing my craft time and spending more quality time with kiddos.
6. spending time to teach the boys… guess what...., it’s scrapbooking and cards making. Will post some photos of their completed works soon.
Well, mainly I busy with all the things mentioned above lately.
We brought the boys to Night Safari yesterday evening. Sara cannot follow cos’ she’s not well. I will bring her to the zoo next week. She is very fascinated by elephants. I bought Shayne a birthday pressie – a zoo and night safari pass for a year cos’ he told me he likes Night Safari. While signing up for the pass, I made a comment that this is my son’s birthday present. The reception gave Shayne a zoo birthday pack. How sweet of them huh….Perhaps the next birthday party shall be held in the zoo.

The boys were greeted by this dance upon entering the zoo.... they were facinated by the fire dance.

Happy Birthday our lovely boy -Shayne.

They are trying to figure out what the sculpture is made off.

Your dearest Mommy , ME, has already promised both of you that she'll bring you guys here 'real' often. Yap---- I will try.

Great food. All of you must try this if you visit the Night Safari.

One of these guys will go back with me on my next trip - lovely zebras...
