Individual Milestones

Last year while on holiday to Australia with Faith, I realized that Faith at 5 years old is already reading rather well. To be honest, I am rather worried as Sean cannot even read any word yet at 4 years old…. But looking back, my worry is uncalled for as after a year, Sean can read equally well at 5 years old. Silly me huh? ….

I always remind myself to let the kiddos “grow at their own pace”, but sometimes I that sentence slipped my mind. For example, yesterday, Claire mentioned that Owen is able to write his name. Owen recites Chinese poems and songs with extremely clear diction. It is inevitable that I immediately linked Owen to Shayne, cos’ they are of the same age. As far as I know, Shayne can only manage to write one or two Capital letters…his speech is not as clear, as for his diction???….. So must I pump in more assessment for him or to sign him up for more enrichment classes????? I don’t think so… status quo…. Let him play for the time being… I reckoned I will change my mind again soon…. Hmmm, to minimize stress, I must cut down my lunch appointment with Claire….

Spoke to Mrs Tsai yesterday, she advise me … again… to drop the enrichment classes ( Montessori English and Maths ) as the boys do not need it. Yes, I know Sean may not need it, as for Shayne, we shall continue for a while. She told me to enroll the boys for sports and taekwando instead. Mrs Tsai has a wealth of experience when it comes to children. I took her advise, enrolled Sean in tennis. Shayne loves tennis too, but will only start when he is slightly older.
